King Springs Elementary School
opened in 1957. At that time there were 325 students enrolled in
grades one through eight. There were 10 classroom teachers. Many
changes have occurred in our community since then. Gone are
the pastures and main roads with just two lanes.
Today the City of Smyrna has
undergone a bit of a renaissance and the "Jonquil City", located just
10 miles northwest of Atlanta, has become one of the most sought
after locations in Georgia.
Currently King Springs, with
just grades K-5, serves almost twice the number of children than
when it opened. Our building has also undergone many additions
over the years as we grew to meet the needs of our students in the
21st century.
The school currently has six hundred twenty-five
students with twenty-seven regular education and six special
education teachers; one self-contained Emotional Behavior Disorders
classroom and one self-contained Learning Disabilities classroom. We
have a full-time guidance counselor, an Area Lead Teacher, Early
Intervention teachers, a full-time Resource teacher, an English
Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) teacher, a Target (gifted)
teacher, a speech specialist, and full-time art, P.E. and music
specialists. |
