Educational Experience: Because I was an Air Force wife and a stay at home mom for many years, my educational experience is scattered over many years and several places. I started my teaching career in 1975 as a special education teacher at Seneca Junior High in South Carolina. A year and a half later, I became an Elementary Counselor/Psychometrist in the same Oconee County School System before marrying my husband and moving to Germany where he was stationed in the Air Force.
I then became the LD teacher at Bitburg American High School in the DoDDS system and taught there for almost two years. In January, 1981, we were transferred back to the states and I was hired right away in School District 17 in Sumter, SC to temporarily replace an assistant principal who had to leave for health reasons. I worked closely with the special education department during that brief period and in the fall, became the LD resource room teacher at Alice Drive Middle where I taught one year before resigning to stay at home with my first child.
Many moves later and after a very brief time back in the DoDDS system during our 2nd tour of Germany, I returned to work as a School Psychologist and worked in the Houston County School District from 1993-1996. We moved with the Air Force another two times, then returned back to Houston County in 2001 where I worked again in the School Psychology Department, primarily with crisis intervention. My husband’s retirement from the Air Force and subsequent position with Lockheed Martin brought us to the Cobb County area in the summer of 2003.
