J. Milton Lewis Elementary School exists for the purpose of serving the academic, social, emotional and physical needs of the children in a safe, nurturing, caring environment where democracy, good citizenship, and moral values are recognized as an integral part of the program that allows them to progress at their own rate of skill development and growth, yet challenges them to achieve their maximum. The end result of our efforts should be to prepare our students to meet, with high purpose and effectiveness, their
responsibilities as citizens in a global society.
Good to Great in '07-'08!
Our theme for 2007-08 is “You
are ESSENTIAL to our Success”. Essential is defined as: “of
the utmost importance”, “something necessary”, “indispensable”. When I
reflect upon the essential elements of a successful learning environment for
children, the following ideas come to mind:
E – Enthusiasm and energy
for teaching and learning
S – Support – parental support
and support materials for curriculum
S – Safety – children should
feel safe at school
E – Engaged – lessons should
involve students in a fun, meaningful way
N – Nurturing – students should
know we care deeply about their well-being
T – Teamwork – students,
teachers, parents need to work together
I – Innovation – we are
preparing students for a future we can’t imagine
A – Achievement & Attitude –
making daily progress with a positive attitude
L – Laughter – a sense of humor
and knowing how to have fun while learning
I am dedicated to providing the
leadership necessary to enable our staff to provide these “essentials” for
our students. All Lewis stakeholders have a responsibility for contributing
to the success of our school. As a matter of fact, “You are essential to
our success”!
Please call on me if I can ever be
of assistance to you or your child.
Sincerely,
Shelia Chesser, Principal
