P.E., Health, & Connections

We currently have the following Connections classes:
  • Art

The four components of middle school art education are:  production, criticism, history, and aesthetics.  These components are not treated separately but are integrated throughout the 9 weeks, through hands on projects, critiques, art history research, and discovering art in our daily lives.

  • Keyboarding

Keyboarding is comprised of learning basic keyboarding technique, formatting a word processing document, creating spreadsheets for a variety of functions and developing PowerPoint presentations of student research.

  • Technology Education

This 9-week course introduces LMMS students to Technology Education. The Technology Education program provides experiences that lead to the development of technologically literate people. Students will participate in problem-based learning utilizing math, science and technology principles. Students will have the opportunity to apply their knowledge through various hands-on activities.

  • Music Appreciation

The connection to today's popular culture and music is very important in the general music classroom.  Students are asked to transfer information to current events by incorporating new music recordings and current events. Students also learn about the careers and technology in the music field.

  • Physical Education

Participation is cornerstone of our Physical Education program. Students who participate to the best of their ability on a daily basis and are cooperative with other students and the particular activity are vital to a successful program. The teaching of these skills, the practice required to develop them, and lead-up activities that enhance these skills are a major goal of our program. Physical fitness is the foundation of skills performance, personal health, and wellness. Students assigned physical education will participate in a variety of fitness activities each nine weeks.

  • Health

This course is designed to teach students good health and safety habits and how to assume responsibility for their own health decisions. Specifically the students will learn the facts about health and how to apply these facts to their daily lives. The three year curriculum consist of the following units:

  • Mental/Emotional, Physical, and Social Health
  • Substance Abuse
  • Nutrition
  • Personal Hygiene
  • Human Growth and Development
  • CPR and Injury Prevention

The teachers that teach 7th grade CPR are American Red Cross certified instructors in Community First Aid and Safety. All 7th graders have the opportunity to receive Adult CPR certification. The certification is valid for one year. The information presented for Human Growth and Development varies for each grade level and each unit presents straightforward information. All materials are available for review through an appointment with your child's teacher.

We currently have the following Music Programs:

  • Band

The band program includes advanced and intermediate bands at the seventh and eighth grade levels and like-instrument classes at the sixth-grade level. All band classes meet daily. Extra-curricular activities include jazz band (by audition only) and pep band (open to all seventh and eighth-grade band students). Help sessions take place before school daily and after school by appointment. More than 400 students participate in the band program.

  • Orchestra

The Lost Mountain orchestra program offers orchestral instruction for beginning, intermediate, and advanced performers.  The students may choose to play the violin, viola, cello, or string bass.  Students are taught the fundamentals of music theory, music listening skills, rhythmical studies and string performance.  The variety of literature includes folk, classical, country, pop, rock, and various other styles.

  • Chorus

At Lost Mountain, the chorus  theme is "We Touch the World."  Along these lines, chorus students learn about music from all over the world by singing pieces in languages such as Spanish, Russian, Japanese, French, and Italian in addition to English.  Outside of their regularly scheduled class time, students can sing in Chamber Chorus in the Fall and Show Chorus in the Spring.
