There's a whole lot of shaking going on! |
Ms. Tatum needs your help! She needs a vacation but she knows too much Earth Science. She knows that there are regions of the world that have more earthquakes than others and she wants to make sure she doesn't pick one of those spots for her vacation! She needs your help!
For one a one week period, Ms. Tatum needs you to plot out daily earthquakes on a map of the Earth. She wants you to see if you can predict where an earthquake is more likely to occur. After you have plotted the data for a week see if you can find out why the earthquakes are occurring where they are.
Start your research by going the the US Geologic Survey's data collection site. Record your daily findings on the sheet that Ms. Tatum will give you in class.
While you are plotting earthquakes you probably should probably do Ms. Tatum a favor. Check the Weekly Volcanic Activity Report to see if there have been any volcanic eruptions this week. Those spots don't make very good vacation spots either. Look at your map, is there a correlation between the earthquake locations and the volcanic activity? Can you predict why?
