PROJECT 2400 Improves Student SAT Scores and
College Opportunities
|
PROJECT
2400 created in 2006, is a strategic
partnership between the Cobb Chamber of Commerce and the Cobb County
and Marietta City school districts to help enhance our students SAT
scores. Cobb County and Marietta City schools fare well compared to
other systems in the U.S. and Georgia, however, many students lag
behind or miss out on an opportunity to attend their college of
choice due to low test scores. Wanting to prepare our students in the best possible way for
the test, which is now based on a score of 2400, the Cobb Chamber
helped fund Project 2400 which provided an SAT preparation course to
273 deserving students in 16 schools.
|
2007 Project 2400 Results:
|
205 students
took the Princeton Review’s diagnostic test and the SAT.
74% of the
students scored higher on their SAT than their diagnostic test.
Students scored
up to 520 points higher than on their diagnostic test. The average
score increase from the diagnostic test to the SAT was 95 points.
PROJECT 2400
was well received and got excellent reviews from our educators. “Any
increase is great and Project 2400 clearly made a difference,” says
Leigh Colburn, principal of Marietta High School.
PROJECT
2400's goal is to make a
difference for as many students as possible, extending the SAT
preparation course to help our 2009 graduates. McEachern High School fully supports this initiative and has
replaced its own after-school SAT preparation program with this new
program. To learn more about this program, contact Mrs. BettyJo
Eldridge, Assistant Principal at McEachern High School, at
770-222-3710 x 225 or
bettyjo.eldridge@cobbk12.org.
Spring classes have already started for the program and no additional
courses are offered at this time.
