Physical Features of the United States:
Essential Question:
        *  How can you describe the physical and human geographic features that define places and regions in the United States?

Big Ideas:
    *  Students will be able to demonstrate how unequal distribution of limited resources leads to specialization among individuals and regions of the United States.
    *  Students will be able to identify and describe different types of regions found within the United States that can be categorized according to climate, physical, political, cultural, and economic.
    *  Students will be able to identify physcial regions within the United States and describe major physical features of each region.
    *  Students will be able to distinguish between political and physical maps; devise maps to show when states were admitted to the union.







Early Explorers:

Essential Question:

How can you describe early explorations of European countries and their impact on native populations in the New World.

Big Ideas:
    * 
Students will be able to identify the areas explored, reasons for and results of early explorations by Marco Polo.

    *  Students will be able to compare and contrast the explorations of Spain, France, England, and Portugal during the 14th and 15th centuries to include the areas explored, the motivation behind the explorations, obstacles encountered, and accomplishments.
    *  Students will be able to describe the impact of early Spanish explorers on native populations in Georgia.
