About the Media Center Students and teachers use the Media Center each day to check out books, search for information, take Accelerated Reader tests, study, and read. Barbara Schmidt, Media Specialist, and D.J. Clancy, Parapro, staff the Media Center. Flexible scheduling makes the Media Center available to students, staff, and parents during regular school hours. Our collection is comprised of approximately 20,000 books, 50 different magazines, and subscriptions to two daily newspapers. Hundreds of videotapes, DVD's, computer programs, and audiovisual kits are also available for instructional use. Each day we circulate approximately 700 items. Students and teachers access a variety of computer programs such as Accelerated Reader, Student Writing Center, STAR, and Inspiration, to name a few. Teacher-supervised Internet use and The Cobb Virtual Library provide research options for our students. Our video distribution system provides classrooms with regular broadcast channels, cable, and satellite programs. The Murdock Information Channel runs continually throughout each day with school-wide news. Parent volunteers shelve hundreds of books, man the checkout desk, and help wherever needed each day. Our Media Center volunteers are an integral part of our media program.
