Nicholson School Council

2007 - 2008

Nicholson established a school council during the 2002-2003 school year in response to the A+ Education Reform Act of 2000 which requires every school in Georgia to have a school council. The purpose is to “bring communities and schools closer together in a spirit of cooperation to solve difficult educational problems, improve academic achievement, provide support for teachers and administrators, and bring parents into the school-based decision-making process.”

A school council functions as an advisory body, offering recommendations and assistance to the local school principal and, where appropriate, the Superintendent and Cobb County Board of Education on any matter relating to student achievement and school improvement.

The school council members are elected and agree to serve a two year term. Quarterly meetings are held at the school on September 26, November 7, February 20, and April 15 at 7:30 am at Nicholson. For the 2007-08 school year, the representatives are:

Rhonda Hale - Chairman
Lynn McWhorter - Vice-Chairman
Michele Myers - Secretary
Barbara Schmeelk - Teacher
Meredith Ditchen - Business/Parent
