California
Hello Nicholson Stars,

We arrived in California today and I am here in Hollywood, standing at the corner of Hollywood and Vine. Lots of "stars" work here making movies and television shows.

What fun it was to find a star on the sidewalk honoring the astronauts who walked on the moon in 1969! What are their three names?

Tonight we went to a concert to see Peter Noone and Herman's Hermits perform. Wow, that's him singing behind me! He even autographed me with his sharpie. But I am the only REAL star here!

You can see the city of San Diego behind me across the bay.  In the morning and evening there is fog around the city caused by the Pacific Ocean nearby.

This part of San Diego is called Pacific Beach.  Can you guess why?  I am having breakfast with Mrs. Stephen and her best friend from high school, Mrs. Baynard.

Tonight we picked plums off a plum tree in Mrs. Baynard's backyard. Yum!

Here in Encinitas, also on the coast of California, I visited their first schoolhouse.  Isn't the schoolbell cool?  Can you find 2 compound words in my note?

Here I am shopping in beautiful LaJolla, CA.  It is pronounced "La Hoy - a."  I found some starfish relatives of mine

Today we drove and hiked in Sequoia National Forest, which is high in the mountains.  What fun we had!

I wanted to climb the rocks by myself!

Look how huge the ancient Sequoia trees are!  They are thousands of years old, too!  Mr. Stephen and I look pretty small in comparison to this tree.

This is the lodge where we stayed in the park last night.  We had to take our snacks out of the car so the bears wouldn't try to eat them while we were sleeping in the lodge!

In another park, we saw the Giant Redwood trees today.  These huge trees also grow in California, near the coast.  This tree fell and so the scientists sliced it to see how big around it was.

Mrs. Stephen and I are standing in front of one of the Giant Redwoods.  It was cool and quiet in the redwood forest and we liked it a lot.

This Giant Redwood was so huge that Mrs. Stephen and I had fun standing inside the bottom of its trunk!  What a great place to play hide and seek!

Today, after arriving on the Monterey Peninsula, Mrs. Stephen and I walked on the rocky shore.  A peninsula is land that is surrounded on 3 sides by water.  The harbor seals and sea lions were lying on the rocks in the morning, getting splashed by the ocean waves, but it was so foggy our pictures didn't turn out.

Ahhhhh!  Today I got to relax on the beach in Pacific Grove, a town on the Monterey Peninsula.  The water is so blue, the sand is so white, and I am getting a golden tan.  What a great vacation I have had in the state of California!
