project2400

October 13, 2007

Dear Parent:

The Cobb Chamber knows that good things happen when education meets opportunity.

Last year the Cobb Chamber of Commerce partnered with the Cobb County and Marietta City school districts to implement the Project 2400 program to help enhance our students’ SAT scores.

As you are aware, the SAT is the standard for acceptance to a college or university. Cobb County and Marietta City schools fare well compared to other systems in the U.S. and Georgia; however, many students lag behind or miss out on an opportunity to attend their college of choice due to low test scores.  This innovative program provides students who would greatly benefit from an increase in their SAT scores the opportunity to take a SAT prep class for free.

Text Box: 2007 Project 2400 Results: • 205 students took the Princeton Review’s diagnostic test and the SAT. • 74% of the students scored higher on their SAT than their diagnostic test. • Students scored up to 520 points higher than on their diagnostic test. The average score increase from the diagnostic test to the SAT was 95 points.

Wanting to prepare our students in the best possible way for the test, the Cobb Chamber and the business community funded Project 2400 in spring 2007 to provide SAT preparation courses to 273 rising seniors in 16 schools.

We are extremely pleased to continue Project 2400 into a second year to benefit our 2009 graduates.
Text Box: The prime benefits that the Project 2400 program affords your child include: •	Improved SAT scores for those committed to attending classes, taking tests and completing homework, increasing the probability of acceptance to college and/or the college of their choice. •	The opportunity to apply for $500 scholarships to Kennesaw State University and Southern Polytechnic State University for students meeting the attendance policy. •	A complimentary one-day admission pass to Six Flags for students meeting the attendance policy.

Project 2400 Attendance Policy: Attendance at 10 of the 12 classes with required make-up for those classes missed plus completion of three tests. Attendance will be taken at all classes and tests.

Program Participation Details:
• Classes will be held weekly, after school on campus on a designated day for two hours each. The program will run for 12 weeks from January to April 2008.
• Three diagnostic tests will be administered by the Princeton Review. Tests take four hours to complete and may be scheduled on Saturday mornings.
• Registration for the May 3, 2008 SAT and proof of registration with student-parent agreement are required.
