Clementina Castro, Attendance Clerk ext 233

The Attendance Office at R.L. Osborne High School is located in the main building and is open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This is where students may check in or out of school when necessary.

Tardy To School or Checking In Late
If a student arrives at school after 8:25 a.m., a written note from a parent or a doctor is required, if the tardy is to be excused. Only the reasons above may be excused. After 3 unexcused tardies, the student will be sent to In School Suspension and for every unexcused tardy thereafter.

Checking Out Of School Early
If a student needs to leave school during the day, a written note from a parent (including a phone number where you can be reached) is required. This note should be brought to the Attendance Office BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS . All notes will be verified with the parents and students will be released at the appropriate time after this notice is verified. Students may check out up to 3:00p.m.

Student Becomes Sick During the Day
If a student becomes ill during the day, he/she should report to the nurse’s clinic, located across the hall from the Attendance Office, with a hall pass from the current teacher. ONLY STUDENTS WHO ARE SICK SHOULD REPORT THE CLINIC. Students wanting to leave school should report to the Attendance Office with a hall pass from the current teacher. No cell phones should be used by students to contact parents. You will be contacted for arrangements to transport the student home.

Absent From School
If a student is absent for any reason, a written note, with a valid phone number, from a parent is required within two (2) days to excuse this absence. The note is to be given to the student’s first period/block teacher, who will issue an admit slip. The admit slip must be given to each of the student’s teachers. Only the reasons listed above may be excused. Worked missed due to an unexcused absence will result in a zero and no credit awarded.

What If My Child Has To Be Absent For An Unexcused Reason?
Absences due to family/ educational trips MUST BE APPROVED IN WRITING BY THE PRINCIPAL OR DESIGNEE BEFORE the trip is taken. These absences will be marked unexcused; however, permission may be given to make up work missed, provided that arrangements are made in advance with the Principal or Designee.

Why Does My Student Need An Emergency Card?
Emergency cards are given to all students during the first weeks of school. It is vital that we have this information on file should an emergency arise with your student.

How can I verify my child’s attendance?
I-Parent can be used to see both your child’s attendance and grades. Visit the Attendance Office to complete a simple application and receive your I-Parent Access Code.

Driver’s License & Attendance
Please note that your student may lose their driver’s license or permit if they miss 10 days (unexcused) in a school year. The unexcused absences do not have to be consecutive. Suspension of driving privileges will be for one year or until the student’s 18 th birthday.
