Slam by Walter Dean Myers

The reason I chose this book is because I like basketball. In middle school I didn’t have good grades. At home there were times I didn’t get along with my brother. I had to go to a different school when I was at Another Chance. I was always moving to different schools when I lived with my first foster family because I got into trouble and the work was hard. And that’s how I can relate to the book. Except he only moved to one school… I moved more than him. And Slam is a Harlem teenager who learns how to apply the will he has to win at hoops to other parts of his life.

Another student review

I chose this book because I thought it would be a good book to read. I also thought that this book isa interesting. I’m going to remember this book forever. I might read it again someday. I would like to recommend this book to my sister Aimee. Because I think she’ll like this book. I also recommend this book to Ms. Poole’s future students after I graduate. I think they’ll enjoy it as much as I do right now. This book is very realistic. It talks about a boy who makes the basketball team and is having trouble in school. He also has to deal with his best friend dealing drugs and drinking. He has a crush on his best friend’s girlfriend. He has to try to bring his grades up in order to stay on the basketball team.
