Ruffin Readers
Osborne High School ’s Ruffin Reader team was the first Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl Team formed in the Cobb County School District . Last year our Team members read twenty book titles and competed against other high school teams on content knowledge from the books. Teams used a college bowl format for the competition. The reading bowl concept was begun in 1986 by Mrs. Helen Ruffin who was a media specialist at Skyhaven Elementary School in DeKalb County . Mrs. Ruffin retired in 1992 and the reading bowl has grown from a local event into a state-wide competition. Students participating on the team have fun reading and sharing their book experiences with others. Club sponsors included both library media specialists Barbara Brenneman, and Kathi Vanderbilt, and Math teacher Kate Lyons
Students on the team enjoy sharing their love of reading and competing. Sponsors Kate Lyons, Kathi Vanderbilt and Barbara Brenneman love the enthusiasm and camaraderie of the team.
