Palmer was named an Advanced Placement Certified School in December,
2006. Currently Palmer offers Advanced Content Science, Language
Arts, and Social Studies at grades 6, 7, and 8. A screening for
advanced content classes is completed automatically at the end of 5th
grade and at the beginning of 8th grade. Students new to
Palmer from outside of Georgia are screened as they enter Palmer.
Placement in the advanced content classes is based on nationally
normed standardized tests such as the Iowa Test of Basic Skills and
the CoGat, as well as on cumulative average in core subjects.
Students in the advanced content classes must maintain an 80 or
above average in each advanced content class to remain in the
program.
