ACADEMICS

New students usually “shadow” a student the first day.  When the student receives his/her schedule, there will be 4 academic classes and 2 connection classes in 6th and 7th grade.  8th graders will receive a schedule with 5 academic classes and 2 connection classes. Academics include Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies in grades 6 and 7, with the addition of reading or foreign language in 8th grade.

SCHOOL HOURS

Pine Mountain Middle School hours are 9:15 – 4:15.  Car riders may be dropped off after 8:15 a.m. and attend supervised study hall.  Students report to homerooms between 8:55 and 9:15.

LUNCH PROGRAM

Lunches are $1.75 (subject to change).  Free and reduced price lunch applications are available in new student folders or the guidance office.  Parents may deposit money in a lunch account that can be debited through the student’s ID number.  Until the ID number is assigned, students should either bring a lunch or bring cash. Parents may also register to access the lunch account online through MealPay.

PE and CONNECTIONS

Most students participate in the Physical Education program.  PE students should dress out in a white or gray t-shirt, shorts or sweat pants with an elastic waist, and athletic shoes.  Showers are not required.

Every 9 weeks a student will have a new connections class.  Students may rotate through Art, Business, Family and Consumer Science, Music, PE and Health.  Band and Orchestra are also connections classes, however these meet the entire school year.  Beginning Band and Orchestra is offered in 6th grade.  Parents supply most instruments for these programs.

LOCKERS

Students are assigned a locker in the grade area and may need to share with another student.  If a student is in PE, a PE locker will be provided to store clothing.  Combination locks are provided for all lockers.  Book bags are usually stored in the  student’s homeroom class.

DRESS CODE

Pine Mountain has a student dress code. Consult the student agenda for specific information.  Students can receive disciplinary consequences for dress code violations.

STUDENT AGENDAS

Each student will have an agenda. Students should write daily homework assignments in the agenda.  Agendas are required to be carried to every class.  New agendas must be purchased if lost.

HOMEWORK INFO CENTER

Parents and students are encouraged to phone INFOCENTER daily to listen to a teacher recording of the assignments given that day.

I-PARENT

Parents may have internet access to their child’s grades and attendance by registering for I-Parent in the guidance office.

CLUBS & ACTIVITIES

Students may learn about clubs and activities by listening to daily announcements.  Athletic activities are sponsored through Cobb Parks and Recreation, or through Kennesaw Mountain High School.

BUSES

Bus information can be found at www.cobbk12.org by clicking on “School and Bus Locator.”  Students should write down the bus and lane number.  Students wishing to ride home with a friend must bring a dated parent note with the name of both children and the bus number the child will be riding.
