A Peek at the Weeks

Language Arts
We are reading and writing nonfiction this month.  We have explored the common features of nonfiction text.  We are practicing reading nonfiction and identifying main ideas and supporting details.  WE use questioning skills to help us.  We will work on summarizing, recalling important details, and writing nonfiction paragraphs. We will also work on writing a "how to" paragraph.
Math

We are working with geometry in math.  We are exploring types of polygons.  We can identify different types of lines.  We  learn about the parts of a circle and the three types of triangles- isosceles, scalene, and equilateral.   After this, we will be working with division the remainder of the 9 weeks.  Students will understand that division is the breaking apart of things into equal groups, and division is repeated subtraction.  Division is MUCH easier for those students that have multiplication facts memorized.  PLEASE continue to practice each night!

Science, Social Studies, and Health

We are completing a small unit on economics in Social Studies.  We will explore economic decision making.  We will be able to describe scarcity and opportunity cost.  We will learn how our economy works.  We will explain the difference between a consumer and producer, goods and services,  and supply and demand.
Our next unit will be a science unit on Georgia habitats.  We will explore the different regions of Georgia and the plants and animals that are found in each region.  This is a BIG science unit that will carry over into January!
