Message from
the Athletic Director
Welcome to the Pope High School Athletic webpage. We hope that you will find
this website is useful in locating specific information about our athletics
program. Pope is consistently ranked in the top 15 AAAAA Athletic Programs in
Georgia, according to the GADA Directors Cup. We are a member of the most
competitive region in the state, Region 6AAAAA, and we boast several state
and region titles in various sports. In the fall semester of 2006 alone, we have already won the state championship for the
7th
time in eight years in Slow Pitch Softball. Pope also won our Area in Volleyball, finishing
4th in the state, and placed in the
top 5
in the state in cheerleading competition.
At Pope, we offer 16 varsity
level sports; most of which have freshman and junior varsity teams . In spring 2007, we will enter our first year of
competitive
gymnastics. In the 2005-2006 school year, we had approximately 700 student
athletes. Research has shown that students attain higher levels of
achievement when involved in extracurricular activities; therefore, we
strive to offer something for everyone. Many of our student athletes
have earned college scholarships and some professional contracts. This
year, our 20th
year anniversary, we will be inducting the inaugural Pope High School
Athletic Hall of Fame class to celebrate the accomplishments of our past
student athletes.
With the support of our active
booster clubs, we have recently accomplished the following: added stadium seating to the baseball field,
an indoor hitting facility, brand new weight room equipment, upgraded the locker
room facilities, upgraded the gym, and made various improvements to the
stadium and concession stand. Our baseball field even won the Georgia Field
of the Year in 2005.
We strive to “inspire students
to achieve extraordinary success”, both in the classroom and on the field.
Pope expects our student athletes to be leaders on the team, in the school,
and in character.
We invite you to come out and
see, support, and cheer for our student athletes in action. All schedules
should be attached to each sport’s respective website. Students can buy an athletic pass for $50, which will give them admission
to every athletic event on Pope’s campus, aside from playoffs and booster
club scrimmages.

Thanks for your support. Go Greyhounds!
