We welcome Mrs. Darlene Hunt Mitchell as Powder Springs Elementary School's new principal!  She was born and raised in Shelby, North Carolina.  Mrs. Mitchell received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Master of Education Degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia State University.  She is currently working on her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) Degree in Educational Policy studies with a concentration in Educational Leadership at Georgia State University.

She and her husband, Sean, have two children named Sean Alexander Mitchell,10, and Alexis Hunter Mitchell, 8.  Mrs. Mitchell enjoys listening to music, singing, song writing, speaking Spanish, watching movies and traveling with her family.  For relaxation, she likes to meditate, study her bible and exercise.

A summary of Mrs. Mitchell's Philosophy of Education:

"I believe education is a lifelong adventure that begins at birth and ends at death.  It is important that parents instill this value into their children in order to create lifelong learners who always strive for the best academically and personally.  In a school students should be able to explore and learn in every subject.  Their knowledge should be challenged and stretched to the limits in order to create a maximum learning environment.  The best way to prepare students for the future is to teach them how to analyze situations and think critically daily.

Education is very important to our society and a greater value should be placed on the jobs that teachers do for our children everyday.  We, as a society, must all work together to ensure the best education not only for the children of today's world but also for the children of the future.  We must look at each student individually to meet his/her needs, creating stronger adults for tomorrow's world."

As the new principal of Powder Springs Elementary School, I plan to create a team that includes the students, faculty, parents, and community.  Together we can all make Powder Springs a school of excellence that is focused on developing the future leaders of our society.
