Hello. My name is Steve Childers. I have been in
education for the past 20 years. I completed my
undergraduate work at Kennesaw State College and my Graduate
work at West Georgia University. I first taught at Riverside
Elementary school for my first three years. I then moved to
Lost Mountain Middle school as well as the West Cobb School.
My first administrative opportunity was at Cheatham Hill
Elementary. Both my wife and I have worked in the Cobb
County School system our entire careers.
I believe that each child can learn. Schools should do more
than teach reading, writing, and arithmetic, they should
instill a sense of belonging. We need to show compassion and
caring for each and every child. Our theme for this year is
relationships. We have worked to develop relationships with
all the students. I try to develop a positive relationship
with all the students here at Powder Springs.
A college of mine found this list at a local business. She
substituted the word customer with student. I believe this
is what we should be striving for everyday.
A student is the most important person in any school.
A student is not an interruption of our work—he or she is
the purpose of it.
A student is not just a statistic. He or she is a
flesh-and-blood human being with feelings and emotions like
ourselves.
A student is one who comes to us with needs and/or wants. It
is our job to fill them.
A student is deserving of the most courteous and attentive
treatment that we can provide.
A student is the lifeblood of this and every other school.
Without him or her, we would have to close our doors.
I do not want to have to close our doors. Every student
matters.
