Educational Experience
Kindergarten Teacher 2 years First Grade Teacher 4 years Second Grade Teacher 1 year Educational Quote or Philosophy It is possible for children to gain some measure of independence on their tasks as any level, even the novice readers, if the tasks are appropriate, introduced well, and supported at first by interaction with a teacher. Reading for understanding and reading independently are possible at any stage of learning to read, and opportunities should be provided every day for this to occur. - Clay, "Becoming Literate", 1991
Reading Recovery Program Reading Recovery is a short-term general education program of individual tutoring for First grade students who are at risk for reading failure. Students have a thirty minute reading and writing lesson every day in addition to their regular classroom instruction. The purpose is to accelerate their learning through individually designed lessons that build on the student’s strengths. This enables them to perform at or above the average ability of their classroom in a short period of time (12-20 weeks). As students reach that goal, additional students are selected to work for the second session of 12-20 weeks. Reading Recovery teachers receive one year of training through Georgia State University for certification to teach Reading Recovery. The veteran Reading Recovery teacher must be engaged in ongoing reflection and research to find the best way to meet each child’s individual needs. Paraprofessionals
