Attendance Policy
Please
keep in mind the importance of having your child in school and on time
to class. Classes begin at 7:50 am and your student should be in the
classroom when the bell rings at that time. Otherwise, the student
will be marked "tardy".
The following information comes from Cobb County Policy JBD (Absences
and Excuses):
Children may be temporarily excused from school:
1. when personally ill
2. when in their immediate family there is a serious illness or death
3. on special and recognized religious holidays observed by their
faith
4. when mandated by order of government agencies (example:
preinduction physical exam for service in the armed forces or a
court order
A letter written by a parent/guardian explaining the reasons for
absences should be presented by the student on his/her return to
school. If a student is absent from school 20 or more days during the
school year, a doctor's statement verifying an illness may be
required.
After five (5) absences: The teacher will contact the parent or
guardian by telephone, letter, or through parental conference.
After ten (10) absences: A letter will be sent from the principal or
principal's designee to the parent or guardian. The letter will
express concern about the student's attendance and will inform the
parent that fifteen or more absences will result in a referral to the
School Social Worker for further assistance regarding attendance.
After fifteen (15) absences: The principal or designee shall confer
with the Social Worker to determine whether a referral is warranted.
Please note: If you need to change the way your student goes home in
the afternoon you must send a note to your child's teacher indicating
that change. Please remember that students are not dismissed from
Sedalia Park between 2:00 pm and 2:20 pm.
