Book Exchange
Fifth Grade students visit the
Library occasionally as a full class for book
exchange and are encouraged to come to the
Library on their own with the permission of
their teacher. Sope Creek Elementary
participates in the
Georgia Book Award program every year, and
offers the
novel nominee list for the 4th and 5th grade
students.
Research &
Library Skills
Fifth grade
students visit the Library at the point of need,
utilizing Reference, non-fiction, and online
resources to solve their information problems.
Mrs.
Schultz-Suggs is introducing fifth grade
students to their Famous American research
project via the Big 6. It is the students
who develop the questions they need to answer
about their Famous American, and the students
who generate the rubric by which their speech
will be graded. Students feel more
invested in a project if they have some control
over what they have to do and how they will be
evaluated.
Bibliographic Format & Copyright
Fifth graders are
capable of being responsible and ethical users
of information. Part of this
responsibility is giving credit where credit is
due. Cobb County schools use the MLA style
as the basis for all format and citation
questions.
Using the MLA
format as a guide, Sope Creek uses a modified
version for each grade level.
