Discussion includes high school registration, graduation requirements, and preparation for success in high school.  Presenters:  Counselors from Hillgrove High School

October 25, 2007

5th to 6th Grade Transition

A panel of students, teachers and counselors will discuss the challenges and successes as students move from 5th to 6th grade. 

November 8, 2007

Youth Culture Today

This workshop will explore issues facing kids today using music and other media as the catalyst for conversation.  Topics discussed will include music and culture, self-injury, bullying behavior, Internet use, drug use and other issues that relate to young people.  Strategies around what can be done to prevent these behaviors will be discussed Disclaimer-Some of the music and conversation presented may be offensive to some people.

The basics of adolescent brain research will be presented with an emphasis on cognitive development, learning and retention.

February 20, 2008

7th, 8th and 9th Grade Transition

A panel of teachers and parents will discuss (1) differences in middle and high school and (2) preparation for the next level.

March 13, 2008

Scheduling: Elementary to Middle School

Scheduling is the focus for this session.  Parents will hear information on scheduling constraints, selection of year long performing arts classes, and placement in advanced content classes.
