The first part of the school year has been a whirlwind for the Foundation. We had a hugely successful Direct Donation drive, we sponsored a terrific presentation of “Go Fish,” our generous teachers sponsored some fun-filled afternoons for a great fundraiser, we had Domino’s pizza nights, and the list goes on!
Because of the success of these fundraisers, we have been able to do a lot more than we ever anticipated. We were able to purchase 4 additional SmartBoards for the school, and we were able to fund over $10,000 in Teacher Grants. We are so proud of what the Foundation has been able to accomplish, and of the impact that these purchases will make on the education of our children for years to come.
In the past, our Teacher Grant program consisted of the Foundation simply providing a $500 grant per grade level. This year, we had teachers apply for the grants. Again, because of the generosity of the families at Timber Ridge, we were able to approve funding to cover the costs of ALL grants applied for! All of the grants that were awarded are listed below:
Kindergarten - Edmark House, Kidpix Deluxe, Read Write and Type software (this is for students in K-2)
First Grade - various hands-on math tools to use for performance based instruction and the Radiant Reading Program
Third Grade - sets of novels (Holes, Missing Gator of Gumbo Limbo, and The Lord Thief), electronic classroom Jeopardy game to be used with SmartBoard or LCD projector
Fourth Grade – 4 Nystrom Literacy Libraries to supplement the current Social Studies adoption kit, the Planet Earth DVD, and materials to support a classroom resource project to go with Social Studies standards in the areas of weather, space, ecosystems, animals, maps, and almanacs
Target - performance based teaching tools, and Kids Discover study guides for Medieval Times and Knights and Castles
Special Education - Kwickcheck whiteboards to be used in all subject areas and at all grade levels
PE (John Degiorgi) – juggling globe ball
Technology (Dianne Lowe) - headphones and a wireless microphone for the computer lab
Pam Johnson and Diane Craycraft - books and posters to support Teaching With Love and Logic.
Music (David Savage) – GROOVY MUSIC software, an interactive program to teach music, and the Game Plan teaching tool to support music instruction
We would like to say a very special THANK YOU to RICHARD COLLINS for completing the Foundation’s tax returns for the past 3 years. Your generosity is truly appreciated, Richard.
