I have been honored to be a part of the Varner
Family for fourteen years and to be voted this year, by my
peers, as teacher of the year. In 1993, I married and moved to
the great state of Georgia from the sunny state of Florida. The
incredible fall and spring seasonal changes have helped me
through the freezing Georgia winters. Although I have endured
frequent teasing over the years, for being the first teacher to
wear my scarf, gloves, and ear muffs, I love living in Georgia.
I always wanted to be a teacher and I believe everyday brings an
opportunity to learn something new. In 1997, I received my
degree of Master of Education from the State University of West
Georgia. Continuing on, I received my degree of Specialist in
Education in 1998, also from the State University of West
Georgia. Many of you know my two beautiful children, Megan and
Wesley, that are the light of my life. They enjoy attending
Varner and catching glimpses of Mom walking in the halls with
her class. If asked, my daughter will tell you that reading is
my favorite thing to do in my free moments of the day. I always
say it is my second favorite thing, my first is spending time
with my family. After finding out I have two children the next
question my students ask is do I have any pets. The answer is a
resounding yes. We have two dogs, one is a mutt and the other is
a collie, along with a Beta fish and two hermit crabs. There is
never a dull moment in my day spending it with my children, my
students, and my pets. Having the opportunity to work with the
wonderful families and staff at Varner has made the past
fourteen years memorable ones. Being a part of creating a safe
harbor at Varner is rewarding and I am excited about this school
year and the adventures it will bring my way.
