Trigonometry Policies

Textbooks:     Textbooks will be issued to every student.  In the event of a lost or stolen

textbook, the replacement cost will be $68.67.  A fine will be assessed for

any writing in books.

Notebooks:    A loose-leaf notebook should be maintained containing notes, homework,

                        quizzes and tests.

Calculators:   A TI-82, 83, 85, or 86 graphing calculator is required for this course.  No

TI calculators above this can be used.  It is highly recommended that the

                        student bring his/her own.

Homework:    Homework will be assigned and checked at the discretion of the teacher.

Quizzes:          Announced as well as unannounced quizzes will be given.  There will be

no make-up quizzes given.  All unexcused absences will result in a zero

quiz grade.  A comprehensive quiz will be given to all students at the end

of the semester.  This grade will be used to replace any missing quiz

grades.  Quizzes will cover lecture notes, homework, and problems

already studied in previous chapters.

Unit Circle:    In order to be successful in trigonometry, it is mandatory to memorize the

unit circle.  Unannounced weekly quizzes will be given.  There will be

two types of timed unit circle quizzes.

                                       1.  Three minute quizzes involve  reproducing the exact unit circle.

Students will earn an 100 or 0.  At most, two grades of zero

will be dropped at the end of the semester.

                                       2.  Five minute quizzes will require the student to know the trigonometric

values of the unit circle.  Each question is worth 3 points.  At the end

of the semester, the two lowest unit circle quiz grades will be dropped.

These quizzes must be made up within the number of days permitted by the

                    school make-up policy.

Tests:              Tests will be given on Monday or Thursday when possible.  A student who

misses the day of the test will be expected to take the test the day they

return to school.  Any missed test which is not made up before the next

test is given will automatically receive a zero.  Make-up tests are to be

arranged with the teacher.

Final:               A comprehensive final will be given at the end of the semester.

Grading:         Homework                    10%

                        Quizzes                         25%

                        Tests                             50%

                        Final Exam                    15%

It is the student's responsibility to inform his or her parents on grades and progress in the class.  The student

is expected to keep the agenda up-to-date at all times.  It is also left up to the individual student to seek

extra help if needed.
