Important Details:

  • Students participating in the trip will be able to apply the miles to their Frequent Flyer accounts to earn points on their Delta Sky Miles accounts.

  • If a student’s parent works for Delta and therefore the student could travel on a pass standby, please note that the full group, including chaperones, must continue the trip as planned. An arrangement for alternate transportation to meet up with the group is the sole responsibility of the student and her/his parents.

  • Host families are screened through the Ministry of Tourism and the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca. Students will choose roommates once we have the final number of students signed up for the trip.

Grades earned in Salamanca:

All students are required to arrive for classes on time each day, complete all work in classes, and participate in all scheduled activities. Students will receive academic credit for work completed in Language classes. This grade will be added to the classwork portion of the second semester grade. Additionally, students will participate in a group scavenger hunt during which time they will be required to use Spanish to complete a series of tasks in and around Salamanca, getting many of the answers to the questions from people living in Salamanca. This grade will be one of the test grades earned during second semester. Students not participating in the trip will be working on a Spanish project in class during the week of the trip. The grade for this project will be added to their second semester test average.

Students are expected to speak only in Spanish throughout the trip. Most of the chaperones are fluent Spanish speakers, so there is no need to use English unless you are speaking with a chaperone who does not speak Spanish.

This is an academic school trip not just a tour. Our primary focus is to help students break the language barrier to improve listening and speaking skills. The Universidad Pontificia directors have prepared a curriculum around the Advanced Placement exam standards in order to help you be well-prepared to take your exams in May. Exams are only three weeks after our return, so using Spanish in an immersion setting is the best way to help you achieve success on the AP exam.

Because this is a school-sponsored trip, all student behavior is regulated by the school policies in place in the handbook.

Closer to our departure date, students will choose the travel group they want to be in, their house partner for the Homestay in Salamanca and their roommates in hotels (usually triple rooms). There will be a sign-up sheet for the busses as well.

You can call me with any questions or concerns you have regarding the trip. My e-mail hester.vasconcelos@cobbk12.org , or you can leave a message at the voice mail at school: 770-578-3225 voice mail 523. I will return your call as soon as possible.
