Senior Project
The Senior Project program is a performance assessment and requirement (from
basic students to honor students) for 12th graders with these four components:
- A research paper on a topic of the student’s choice
- A project related to the paper
- A portfolio
- A presentation to a panel comprised of community members and school staff
Research paper
Students choose a subject and obtain approval by their faculty advisory committee.
Topics can be on an extremely wide range of subjects. Main requirement – must be a “stretch” for the student; must be “stretching” beyond previous achievement levels.
Product in relation to the research
Can be a written project, art, photography, science, engineering, construction, etc.
Portfolio
A physical display of the steps, the process used, the phases, etc.
Presentation
Present to a panel comprised of community members and school staff.
The panel evaluates what the students have to say and the manner in which it is said.
They also ask questions to the students about their area of research.
