June 8, 2026 — While students are home for the summer, the Green Acres Elementary School campus got a generous makeover this summer.

About $25,000 in landscaping and construction projects were completed at the school, thanks to the Home Depot Foundation.

"We're so grateful to have partners like the Home Depot Foundation. I know the kids will be so excited to see all the changes when they come back in August," said Green Acres principal Dr. Maria Braswell.

Improvements include installing state-of-the-art garden beds so students can eat the food they grow in their school garden in their new-look garden.

The Home Depot Foundation volunteers also reconstructed the school's outdoor classroom deck in front of the school. They were able to rebuild the foundation and make changes to the deck so that students can learn more comfortably outside on a nice day.

When you go to the back of the school, you'll also see changes made to the play areas. Along with donating two new soccer goals, the Home Depot Foundation widened the soccer field and play areas, creating more space where students can stay safe and active during the day.

They also helped implement a new drainage system so the field dries more quickly after rain.

Thanks to these summer upgrades, Green Acres students will start the new school year with enhanced spaces for learning, playing, and succeeding when the new school year starts in August.
