Immunization Compliance

Effective July 1, 2021, children 16 years of age and older entering the 11th grade must have received one booster dose of the meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MCV4), unless their initial dose was administered on or after their 16th birthday. Meningococcal disease is a serious bacterial illness that affects the brain and spinal cord. Meningitis can cause shock, coma, and death within hours of the first symptoms.

On August 29, 2022, North Cobb High School was notified immunization records would be audited to confirm compliance with the state immunization expectations. If your junior student has yet to receive the required MCV4 booster shot, please schedule an appointment with your pediatrician or the health department by the end of September. Students still missing the required booster by October 10th will be excluded from attendance until a current certificate of immunization is obtained.  While the MCV4 booster shot is not required until 11th grade, 10th grade students already turning 16 are encouraged to get the booster rather than wait until the last minute.

Georgia colleges are also adding the MCV4 to their list of required immunizations.
