Yoder.PNGMr. Dean YoderPearson Families, Friends, and Faculty:

I am excited to start our second year at Pearson. After a fantastic first year, we reflected on all that we did well and what we needed to improve to provide a high-attaining school where students feel safe, welcomed, and valued while getting relevant and rigorous instruction to push them to reach their highest levels of achievement. Within our community, we will continue to instill an atmosphere in which all family members feel welcomed, valued, and wanted.

There is an old saying that starts with, “It takes a village….” This saying is very true, and this is how as a school team, along with our families and partners in education, we will work together to ensure our students always “Aim High and Fly Higher.”

Sincerely,

Yoder's Signature.pngDean Yoder

Askew-3.jpgDr. Mitchell AskewHello, I am Dr. Mitchell Askew the 8th grade administrator as well as the administrator in charge of Academies, Transportation, and the AVID program.  I have been in education for 20 years and have had the privilege of teaching and leading in Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools as well as the Cobb County School District.  Leading the 8th grade team as well as the Academies team allows me to support them ensuring that our students are prepared for high school and their career paths.  I have also enjoyed building leadership capacity in our teachers and students with the teacher and student leadership cohorts. Pearson continues to lead the way as our teacher and student leaders continue to learn, support, and lead others to success.

Welcome back to the 2023-2024 school year!  As I start my third year as the 6th Grade Assistant Principal, I am more excited than ever to see the great things that will happen at Pearson this year!

With our SOP in place, the instructional time in the classroom is dedicated to teachers getting to know students as individual learners.  This provides insight on how to plan for purposeful and engaging lessons.  With our Instructional SOP rolling out this August, we will focus on differentiating activities, plan for small group instruction, and most importantly, use student data to drive all our instruction.

As the administrator over Reading and English Language Arts, it is my commitment to our families to make sure we grow our students as readers and writers.  Our reading and writing teachers are diligently working together to make sure their lessons are relevant to our students.  They are intentional in their feedback, where they identify the strengths in students’ reading or writing and then provide strategies for areas that need growth.

As the 6th Grade Assistant Principal, I hope to help make the transition from elementary to middle school seamless.  Middle school can be a tough three years but with a strong partnership between school and home, these next three years can set our students up for future success in high school and beyond.

Again, I look forward to seeing ALL of the great things that happen at THE ONE and ONLY Pearson Middle School this year!

Vanessa Petit.jpgVanessa PetitBienvenidos a Pearson Middle School!

My name is Vanessa Petit and I am one of the assistant principals at Pearson. I was born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela and moved to Georgia when I was in middle school. Most of my career has been in middle school, since it is where my passion is.  As an assistant principal at Pearson, I will work hard to make sure that our students have a great experience by connecting with their teachers and peers, feeling empowered by the strategies and life lessons they are taught, and accomplish academic success. I am looking forward to a great year as a Pearson Pilot.
