The Pebblebrook Falcon football team is over halfway through a historic season. The team is undefeated and sitting on top of Region 2-7A. The only game that the team didn't dominate this season was a tie with Riverdale, 14-14.

Last week, the Falcons traveled south to Sharpsburg to take on last year's region champs, the East Coweta Indians. It was a highly anticipated game for several reasons. First, it was an opportunity for the Falcons to show what they could do; second, because the Indians had just taken their first loss from Collins Hill, the top-rated team in the state. And, last but not least, it was the first region contest for either program.

The Falcons won the game, 38-21, hanging 31 points on the Indians in the first half, 21 of those coming in the second quarter. It was a confirming victory for the Falcons head coach Leroy Hood, who came to Pebblebrook in 2019. The win also confirmed the Falcons as a postseason contender; the team earned a top-ten ranking for the first time since 2003. At 6-0-1, the Falcons are having their best season since 2000.

But the accolades didn't stop there. On Wednesday, the team was named as Georgia High School Football Daily's Team of the Week. The day before the team learned that they were also selected as the FOX-5 Team of the Week. The presentation happened at Pebblebrook earlier today, appropriately enough, on the Falcon football field.

Coach Hood was humble about all the attention and wanted it to be a community recognition. "It's family first here," he said, "and the support from everyone—the school, the administration, the District, the county—is amazing."

"I knew there was potential here when I took this job," he continued. "The kids are buying in and adjusting to the atmosphere we're trying to create both on and off the field."

Brittny Jones, Pebblebrook's Athletic Director wholeheartedly agreed. "This team and Coach Hood's leadership has been nothing but fun," she said with a smile. "The community is excited; the game attendance is up; our entire school culture has been enhanced. Overall, we're very excited about the direction of this Pebblebrook program."

Congratulations to Pebblebrook on a great season so far. The Falcons have three region games still to go in their season: Campbell, Newnan, and McEachern. Make sure to come out and support the Falcons as they look to continue their winning ways into November and beyond.
