Cobb Schools' Athlete of the Week program is a weekly recognition of a male and a female student-athlete that perform at high levels in their sport, in the classroom, and in their school communities. The program is made possible by support from BSN.
This week's winners are:
Andre Young, Basketball, Pebblebrook
Andre averaged 22 points, 5 assists, and 3 steals in three recent important games. All three opponents were top 10 state-ranked teams. The Falcons went on to win all three games thanks to Andre's dominant play on the court. The Falcons bested #9 East Coweta (71-65), #5 McEachern (85-74), #1 Newton (80-59). Pebblebrook is now ranked #1 in the state and #18 in the nation!
"Andre is the epitome of a student-athlete," said Pebblebrook Athletic Director Brittny Jones. "He performs extremely well in the classroom and carries a 3.5 GPA. He is also a stellar basketball player and leader of the Pebblebrook team."
"He elevates our entire school culture with his positive energy and contagious personality," AD Jones continued. "Pebblebrook is grateful to have Andre Young!"
Betsey Dunn, Diving, Campbell
Through hard work and sheer dogged determination, Betsey achieved a qualifying cut for the GHSA State Diving Championships. This is no easy accomplishment for any diver, but Betsey is a freshman, which makes it even more rare and impressive.
"Betsey has developed her skills over the season," said Campbell Swim and Dive Head Coach Jonathan Laird. "Qualifying for the State Championship Meet requires determination and perseverance to overcome the pressures of performance. We are very proud of what Betsey has achieved and look forward to her continued successes in the years to come."
"She exemplifies what hard work and dedication represent within the Campbell Athletic program," said Athletic Director Jeff Hutson. "Betsey's humility and grit are characteristics we desire for all of our student athletes. This acknowledgment of her success is much deserved, and we are extremely happy for her and our swim program in general."
