Cobb Schools' Athlete of the Week (AOW) program is a weekly recognition of a male and a female student-athlete that perform at high levels in their sport, in the classroom, and in their school communities. The program is made possible by support from BSN.

This week's winners are a baseball player from Campbell and a soccer player from Pebblebrook.

Alex Karst, Campbell, Baseball

A senior pitcher for the Spartans, Alex pitched an exceptional game against a Top-10 ranked Walton team. He pitched five innings, allowing no runs and throwing six strikeouts. He also hit a 3-run homer. Towering at 6'8" tall, Alex used to also play basketball, but has narrowed his focus to baseball. He is committed to play at Kennesaw State next year.

"Alex has been playing baseball for 14 years," said Head Coach Jackson Cargle, "and is a major component of the Campbell offense and defense on the diamond. He is a smart kid who works hard in and out of the classroom. He has a 4.389 GPA and has tremendous influence over the rest of the guys."

"He represents a standard that Campbell Athletics is setting," said Campbell Athletic Director James Thigpen. "Being selected for this honor is not only an award for Alex, but also for Campbell High School. This allows others to see that our student-athletes are working hard to accomplish goals across all fronts. This is what Campbell Athletics is proud to highlight and has been very supportive of. It is great that Alex gets an opportunity to represent the standard!"

Lizvet Chirinos, Pebblebrook, Soccer

A senior offensive powerhouse for the Falcons, Lizvet has scored a hat trick (3 or more goals) in three consecutive games with 18 total goals scored this season. She scored the first goal in a recent region game against Carrollton to secure a playoff berth for the Lady Falcons. A natural talent, she has been playing only since arriving at high school and has been a varsity player all four years. As offensive and emotional leader of the team, Lizvet has been the captain for the last two years.

"She is a pillar of the team," said her coach Bradford Wood. "Everyone depends on her strength to hold up the team. She is vocal and leads from the front scoring goals and setting the tone for each game. Liz has always been admired by her teammates for her hard work and abilities on the field. She is strong-willed and vocal about her opinions. She has worked hard to communicate with her teammates and provide them with positive feedback."

"She is also a hard worker in the classroom. She has a 3.161 GPA and is currently being recruited by several schools. With 5 games left of the regular season, she is currently focused on breaking the school record for most goals scored in a single season. We are all proud of the person and player that Liz is and look forward to the player she will become," said Coach Wood proudly.
