New Nutrition Standards
effective 7-1-14

The district is in the process of updating the wellness policy (District Administrative Rule EEE-R Wellness Program) to reflect new federal requirements (Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010). The new requirements include nutrition standards for all foods sold in schools. Attached you will find a brief summary of the nutrition standards. Please email Mrs. Dinizio at christine.dinizio@cobbk12.org with any comments, questions, or feedback by March 26th, as these will be shared with district level personnel. Click here to review the new standards . . .

As you have heard, we will no longer be able to sell food from outside vendors at school next year (Chick-fil-a, Bake Sales, etc.) as many of these things do not meet the federal nutritional guidelines. (Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010)

There is also a proposed rule that this new federal guideline will also impact classroom celebrations (birthdays, holidays, etc.). If you have strong feelings either way, the USDA is seeking comments regarding the proposal. The formal 60-day comment period is open now through April 28th, 2014.
