Fifth Grade's Ellis Island Simulation
Ellis Island, located in Upper New York Bay, was a gateway for over 12 million immigrants to the United States as the nation's busiest immigrant inspection for over 60 years (1892-1954). Today, East Side's fifth grade students experienced some of the challenges these immigrants faced including: mock medical inspections, baggage checks, legal exams, employment assessment, & holding areas.
This could not have been as successful without the amazing help and support of our parents & fifth grade teachers!
