Greener Summer Hours:
Monday, June 2nd- Friday, July 28th schools will be closed on
Fridays. To conserve energy and taxpayer dollars Cobb
county School will adopt a 4-day summer schedule.
Welcome Mrs. Thomas, Kemp Principal
The Kemp family would like to formally
welcome our new principal, Mrs. Shea Thomas!! Mrs. Thomas is
currently the principal at Baker Elementary, but will begin her
tenure at Kemp beginning 7/21. Some of you may
remember that she was the assistant principal at Kemp a few
years ago, so she is excited to return home.

2014-2015 Summer Information
We hope you are having a great summer. We know it is full
of fun, but we also hope you are READING and working on MATH.
Click on the link below for your summer reading assignments, as
well as the Kemp Essential Skills for each grade level.

Meet and Greet
Join us on Thursday, July 31st for Meet and Greet. You
can bring your child and meet your new teacher and classmates.
The times are below.
8:30-Kindergarten PARENTS ONLY
9:00-5th Grade students and parents
10:00-1st & 2nd students and parents
11:00-Kindergarten students and parents
12:00-3rd & 4th students and parents
**Class lists will be posted on the website at 3:00 on
30th. We will send a username and password to all students
prior to that day.
**August 1st-Kindergarten and 1st grade students can participate
in a bus ride along to see your bus routes. Go to the

Green School Day Photos
The ALP teachers did a great job planning this amazing day with
their students. The kids planned projects around the topic
of sustainability and farm to table initiatives. We are so
proud of the work they did. The entire school spent the
day outside learning about this inititative. Big thanks to
Mrs. Groeneveld, Mrs. Dorsey and Mrs. Dickinson.
Hillgrove Basketball Camp-Registration
The Hillgrove Basketball Staff would like to announce its 8th
Annual Summer Basketball Camp. We will have a Full Day
Fundamentals Camp June 2nd - June 5th. Details regarding
camp ages, camp times, and registration due dates can be found

We are so excited to announce our Kemp Teacher of the Year for
2014-2015! Mrs. Phillips is an amazing teacher who has
touched the lives of so many children. We are so proud to
call her a Kemp Cougar!
CRCT Re-Test for Grades 3 and 5
Please read the letter above regarding re-testing for CRCT in
grades 3rd through 5th. In 3rd grade this only pertains to
Reading and in 5th grade this only pertains to Reading and Math
Career on Wheels
Students in grades K-2 enjoyed learning about all the different
careers they can be when they grow up! This event was so
much fun and the kids enjoyed a great day planned by Mrs.
Briggs, Mrs. Stevens, and Mrs. Brauninger. Thank you to
our wonderful counselors for organizing!
Boosterthon is Underway!

2nd Grade ALP Plants the Herb
Andrew wins runner up in County
Andrew Cassidy from Mrs. Brown's class
won 1st runner up in the Cobb County Writing Fair. We are
so proud of Andrew and his teacher for their amazing work.
Clean Air Campaign
from Mrs. Surrency’s 5th grade was presented with an
Honorable Mention Award from Clean Air Campaign’s Gretchen
Gigley. Madison’s comic strip was one of almost 1500
entries in the Clean Air Campaign “Young
Lungs At Work” art contest. Her comic strip can be seen on

Kemp Supports Autism Awareness!
Kemp staff and students supported Autism
by selling t-shirts as a fundraiser for Autism Speaks. We
also educated our students about what autism is by showing
videos on the morning news. We appreciate all the work
from Mrs. Ali Cobb for coordinating this event!
Move It In March-Great Success

coordinating and getting us moving!
Spring Break Study Island
the break, we are having a Spring Break Study Island Challenge.
Each grade level has been assigned a math AND language arts
challenge. These do not have to be completed in one day, but
can be saved each time until finished, just use the SAVE
FOR LATER bar in the left margin of the Challenge!
These are not mandatory, but a prize is
being offered to the class that has the highest percentage of
completion. Also, each child will be given a homework
pass if they complete all the activities. If you
have any problems with Study Island itself, please email Paige
Harbuck. She will be able to let you know your child’s username
and password in case they don’t know it, or have forgotten it.
Mrs. Harbuck will be checking her email at least once daily, so
she should respond to you within 24 hours. Her email is

Substitute Teacher Job Fair
The School District will host TWO
Substitute Job Fairs on Tuesday
4/22/14 from 9:00 am
until 11:00 am. For applicants interested in substituting
for the North Area Schools (North of Powder Springs
including North Marietta, East Cobb, Kennesaw and Acworth) the
job fair will be held at Piedmont Baptist Church located
at 570 Piedmont Road, Marietta, 30066. For applicants
interested in substituting for the South Area Schools
(Includes Smyrna, Powder Springs, Austell, and Mableton—South
Marietta area), the job fair will be held at Skyview
Elementary School located at 5805 Dunn Road,
Mableton, 30126. To attend applicants must complete the
1-RSVP by sending an email to
firstname.lastname@example.org. You can only RSVP to one
fair and this should be the geographic area you plan to
work as a substitute. You must RSVP
2-Bring a resume with you to the fair
detailing all of your work and educational experience.
3-Be prepared to briefly meet with

Move It In March
A MONTH DEDICATED TO HEALTH, FITNESS AND FUN!!! SAVE THE DATES
- Walk the Track-We want parents, grandparents, neighbors and friends to join us for an afternoon walk on our
beautiful track. Kids must have parent’s permission to participate. Time 2:30pm until 3:30 pm. We need parent
volunteers. In the event of rain, this event will be rescheduled for another day.
- March 20th Family Fun & Fitness Night-Let’s MOVE Kemp!!!! Parents and students you’re invited to come and
take part in an evening of health and wellness related activities. We have a variety of vendors and speakers
participating. Yoga demonstrations, Zumba demonstrations, kickball and dancing are included in the fun. We’ll have
door prizes, raffles and lots of great give away items. (Time 6:00pm until 8:00pm)
- March 28th Sports Day-The students can wear their sports gear, favorite team jersey of Kemp spirit wear. No helmets,
bats or sticks allowed.
- March 27th & March 28th Zumba Kids-(7:15am to 7:30am) Our Kemp students can jumpstart their day with a Zumba Kids
session. Kids need parental permission to participate.
Kindergarten Registration Information
We will have a Kindergarten Orientation on May 6 from 8:30-10:30 am. Please bring your child to the orientation with you.
