Pig Tales Summer Writing Competition!

Pig Tales Writing

The Cobb Schools Foundation is pleased to partner with the Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Department and the Cobb County Public Library System to offer the third annual “Pig Tales” summer Writing Competition presented by SCANA Energy.

The competition is open to all students in grades K-8 attending any public, private or home school in Cobb County. Students are invited to write a short story or essay, in 750 words or less, about their favorite trip to the beach or a dream island vacation. Work can be fiction or non-fiction. Students are limited to one entry.

Submissions must be postmarked (or sent via interoffice mail to the Foundation) by August 12, 2015.

First, second, and third place winners will be chosen among students rising into three grade categories: K-2, 3-5 and 6-8. Entries will be judged on creativity, presentation and correspondence to the theme.

Winners will be announced online no later than August 20, 2015. Prizes will be awarded at the City of Kennesaw’s Pigs & Peaches BBQ Festival on August 22, 2015, and include tickets to several area attractions, t-shirts, festival meals and goodie bags. The grand prize is a bicycle.

For competition rules and information, please visit www.pigsandpeaches.com/pigtales

Please feel free to distribute the attached flyer to your PTA and students or print and include in report card envelopes.  Teachers with the most classroom participation will also be eligible for prizes, so please encourage your students to submit entries!

NEW FOR 2015! The Cobb County Public Library System will be hosting writing workshops at various branches this summer, as well as providing a list of popular “beach reads” for tropical writing inspiration. Dates, locations and times to be announced on the PIG TALES Writing Competition website, so stay tuned.

We would like to thank SCANA Energy for their continued support of this wonderful program, and thank you all once again for your support in fostering creativity in our children!
