Second grader Eli Gleason was
about to embark on the biggest adventure of his
life, but not before he delivered on a mission from
his heart. With the help of fellow students here at
Murdock Elementary School, Eli set out to collect a
few hundred pencils for a great cause.
Beginning with a simple pencil, Eli is determind to
put better learning tools in the hands of students
at village schools in Barayu and Ambo, Ethiopia. Eli
and Murdock Elementary exceeded expectations, boxing
up more than 3,500 donated pencils. Eli delivered
the prized writing utensils himself to students at
his new school in his new home of Ethiopia.
Eli's parents, Rudy and
Katie Gleason, are the founders of Because of
Kennedy. The Gleason's gave up all the comforts
of their home in the United States to make a
difference for countless families and children in

Fire Lane Changes for
On March 13, 2012, the Cobb County Fire Lane
Ordinance was amended to
include a provision for student pick-up at schools.
The ordinance now allows
a vehicle to be located in a fire lane for 30
minutes prior to the afternoon
school end time and 30 minutes after the school end
time, as long as a
driver is behind the wheel.
Stopping or parking a vehicle in a fire lane at any
is prohibited, unless passengers are actively
loading or unloading.
Fire lanes can be identified by “No Parking Fire
Lane” signage and/or curbing
that is red in color.
Fire lane violations currently result in a
fine of $135.00.
