Nicholson News and Announcements:

Georgia Milestones Testing--Begins Wednesday, April 15th!
The new Georgia Milestones Test that replaces the CRCT, will be administered from Wednesday, April 15th through Tuesday, April 21st.  Please make every effort to have your 3rd - 5th grade students at school each day on time, and well rested.  Students who arrive late will not be able to enter the classroom, and will have to make-up that portion of the test during the make-up time the following week. Please help your student do their best by starting them off on the right foot.  You can also encourage them to participate in the Vega Challenge to sharpen their test-taking skills!  See details below.

April--Month of the Military Child
The Georgia Department of Education will join other states and organizations across the country in celebrating April as the Month of the Military Child, which is a time to honor the strength and sacrifices of military children. State School Superintendent Richard Woods is asking that each district designate a day to wear purple and honor the children of military families in Georgia’s public schools.
Cobb County School District selected Thursday, April 30 as our designated day to wear purple and honor the children of military families.

KiDtalk: Ideas from the minds of Cobb kids

Have you ever come up with a great solution to a real world problem?
Have you ever found a new and useful purpose for something very common and ordinary?
Have you ever had a great idea for your school or community but never told anyone?

We want you to produce your own KiDtalk video and share your awesome ideas with the whole world. KiDtalks are based on the popular TED Talks programs where people from every part of the world in a wide variety of industries and cultures share brief bits of specific knowledge that can be applied to the more broad human experience. Lives have been changed and even saved by simply sharing knowledge.

Nicholson Teacher Receives Cobb Schools Foundation Impact Grant!
Cynthia Pragovich was awarded the Teacher Impact Grant from The Cobb Schools Foundation.  Mrs. Pragovich wrote the grant to fund a Portable Writing Lab to provide the technology needed to meet the varied needs and learning differences of our special education population.  These portable word processors will enable students and teachers the opportunity to focus on direct writing goals without the obstacle of tedious handwriting errors and prepare students for the writing portion of the new Georgia Milestones Test.

Nicholson is a 'Steps to Respect' School
We believe bullying is unfair and one-sided.  It happens when someone keeps hurting, frightening, threatening, or leaving someone out, on purpose.  Cobb County Schools has designed a pamphlet  to help parents and students navigate the unclear roadways of behaviors that can be seen as hurtful teasing or bullying behavior.  Click here to access pamphlet.
