ESOL ACCESS Testing

On January 14 Pine Mountain's lead ESOL teacher Gillian Skow and ESOL AP Marranda Edwards collaborated with District Personnel,  including Parent Resource Specialist Vani Arcuragi and ESOL Consultant Arleen Folorunsho to present information to families of ESOL students on the upcoming ACCESS testing for English Learners.  We shared information on preparation, testing and scoring, with handouts and translation services available in multiple languages.  Many thanks to the parents who attended, and asked great questions.  ACCESS Testing for ESOL students at PMMS will take place between Jan 28 and February 8.  Contact Gillian Skow with questions.

First Coffee and Conversations Held

Our first Coffee and Conversations was held Monday, January 14. Parents also had an opportunity to voice comments or questions that they may have had. If you were not able come, always feel free to contact our Principal or our Coffee and Conversations Parent Volunteer, Stephanie Barringer. Cobb Schools to Roll Out New Parent Portal in January

During the October 18 Board of Education meeting, Cobb County School District leaders discussed the January launch of a new parent portal—CTLS Parent—that will show parents what their child knows and provide resources to help their child master other content areas. Initially, CTLS Parent will roll out to a select group of schools to serve as a proof-of-concept. The District will collect feedback from parents and teachers before CTLS Parent is expanded to all schools. Click here to read more.

PMMS Band Program Selected for Southeastern Regional Concert Festival

The Pine Mountain music department is pleased to announce that the 8 Grade Band has been selected to perform at the 2018 Music for All Southeastern Regional Concert Festival this spring!! An overwhelming number of bands from all around the South submitted recordings, and Pine Mountain was one of only 9 middle schools selected. We are the only Cobb County middle school that was selected to perform at the event this year. We will travel to downtown Atlanta and perform in the beautiful Georgia State University Rialto Center. This is a HUGE milestone for the PMMS band program, and we could not be more proud of our students for their hard work! It’s a great day to be a Mustang!

Orchestra Is Rockin'

The Pine Mountain Music Department is happy to announce that the 8 grade Orchestra has been selected to perform at the 2018 Kennesaw State University Orchestra Invitational.  This is a prestigious event in which orchestras from all over the state of Georgia apply to participate in.  This is a non-competitive event in which we will be able to receive feedback from a nationally recognized guest clinician and members of the KSU faculty.

This is the second time Pine Mountain has been accepted to perform and I am very proud of my 8th graders for all the hard work they did last year in order to be accepted to this event.
