Campbell Middle School will be conducting a school- wide Solar Eclipse event on August 21, 2017 from 2:00 – 3:00 pm.  All students will have the opportunity to view the eclipse with safety glasses provided by the school. Permission forms to attend the outdoor event will go home Monday and must be signed in order for the students to participate.  Students may not bring solar eclipse viewing glasses from home. Students will record observations of the solar eclipse for lessons to be conducted through the science classes at various times during the school year.

While the school plans to provide an opportunity for a safe, educational experience, we understand that some parents may not want their children to participate in a live viewing of the eclipse.

Students who do not return the permission form signed by a parent/guardian will complete an alternate activity from inside the school building during the eclipse.

Click here for a copy of the permission form

Our glasses are from American Paper Optics, an approved seller of the glasses (NASA and AAS)

We are accepting donations during our Open House to cover the cost of the glasses.  $1.00 will  provide 2 pairs of glasses and $5.00 will provide 10 pairs of glasses.

Due to the solar eclipse on August 21, 2017,  the Cobb County School District will delay dismissal of elementary, middle and high school students by 45 minutes.

The peak time to experience the solar eclipse falls during our regularly scheduled elementary school dismissal time.  Since student safety is always our first priority so we will delay dismissal to ensure that neither students nor employees are on the roadways during the time of the eclipse.   Subsequently, high schools and middle schools will delay dismissal as well.

Schools will be provided with further guidance and instructional resources as appropriate.  Parents are welcome to pick-up their child at the typical dismissal time if needed.

For more information regarding the solar eclipse visit the National Weather Service at http://www.weather.gov/sgf/SolarEclipse.
