Welcome to Durham Middle School

 School Hours &
Important Transportation Info

8:50 AM - 4:15 PM

  1. It is highly recommended that students arrive early (before 8:50 AM) only if they have a specific reason (appointment with teacher, intramurals, etc.).
  2. No student should be dropped off before 8:15 AM; there is no supervision available prior to this time and the front doors remain locked until 8:15 each morning. Students who arrive early will report to our cafeteria and sign in for silent study hall.
  3. All car-riders should be off campus by 4:30 each afternoon.
  4. Please send a note in with your student if an early check-out is required or you are making any transportation changes for the day other than your normal arrangements.
  5. Early dismissals are accepted until 3:45 pm. If you arrive to check out your student AFTER 3:45 pm, please accept our apologies but we will not be able to call into classrooms. Students will be dismissed at the normal 4:15 pm dismissal time.
  6. All last-minute transportation changes must be completed by 3:45 pm to ensure we have adequate time to communicate this with your student. For safety reasons, no transportation changes will be announced at the end of the day.

School-Day Extended 45 Minutes
on August 21
due to Solar Eclipse

Image result for august 21 solar eclipse information

Due to the solar eclipse on August 21, 2017, the Cobb County School District
will delay dismissal of elementary, middle and
high school students by 45 minutes.

Durham Middle School students will be
dismissed at 5:00 PM

The peak time to experience the solar eclipse falls during our regularly scheduled elementary school dismissal time.  Since student safety is always our first priority, we will delay dismissal to ensure that neither students nor employees are on the roadways during the time of the eclipse.   Subsequently, high schools and middle schools will delay dismissal as well.

To prepare students for this once in a lifetime event, Durham Middle School students and staff will be able to go outside with their classes and view the eclipse with special certified glasses to protect their eyes. These glasses will be provided for all students who have returned a required permission form for viewing.  The permission form will be sent home before the eclipse takes place.

Leading up to the eclipse, teachers in every subject area have been asked to design lessons that touch on the eclipse. Students will use this natural phenomenon as a real-world learning opportunity to explore eclipses.  If you have questions about classroom activities, please contact your student's teachers.

For more information regarding the solar eclipse visit the National Weather Service at http://www.weather.gov/sgf/SolarEclipse.
