Please Donate to the Garrison Mill FUN-Raiser

This year 100% of total funds collected through the FUN-Raiser will go directly to Garrison Mill Elementary curriculum enhancements, professional development, and a variety of school enrichment programs. This will be the PTA's only fund-raising event for the year, so PLEASE consider donating. For additional information, or to donate online, please visit the GM PTA website.


Health & Wellness Week - October 23-27


Girls Code - Grades 4 and 5

Girls Code Club is available to all girls in grades 4 and 5.  No permission slips are required and there are no fees.  Fourth grade meets every Wednesday morning and fifth grade meets on Thursday mornings.  Come to 509 as soon as you have checked in with your homeroom teacher.  We meet from 7:15 - 7:45 AM.

Kindergarten Screening for Gifted Services

At Garrison Mill, all kindergarten students will automatically be screened in the spring for potential need of gifted services. The parents of students requiring further evaluation will be contacted. For further information about the screening process please read: Kindergarten Screening

Iowa Assessment Information

Students are assessed in the fall on the Iowa Assessments. This is a norm-referenced assessment that measures student achievement in comparison to other students nationwide. Students in grades 3, 5, and 7 are tested in Reading, Mathematics, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. Read More...


Blackboard Connect Parent Portal

The Blackboard Connect Parent Portal is an online system designed to allow you to customize how you receive notifications from your child's school as well as from the district. Notifications can now be received by phone, text message, or email.

General Information

Late Arrivals and
Early Dismissals

For the safety of all students, if your child arrives after 7:50 AM, you must sign your child in at the PTA desk in the lobby. There are no transportation changes or dismissals permitted after 1:40 PM.


Inclement Weather

We encourage our staff and parents to listen to News/Talk 750 WSB (750 on the AM radio dial) when winter weather threatens. In addition, the News/Talk 750 WSB website provides a complete and frequently updated list of school closings online at: www.wsbradio.com.

In the event of an early dismissal due to inclement weather, the After School Program (ASP) will also be closed.


Bus Pass

Students are permitted to ride a different bus or get off at a different stop, if there is a childcare need. The Bus Pass form must be completed in advance and returned to the front office for authorization. Students may not ride a different bus for playdates, parties, sleepovers, etc.
