Murdock would like to designate
Wednesday, April 16
Murdock’s

 “Purple Up! For Military Kids.”

We would like to encourage all students and staff to wear purple to school.

The Georgia Department of Education will join other states and organizations across the nation in celebrating

April as the Month
of the Military Child.

During the week of April 14 to 18, many states and communities will take a day to “Purple Up! For Military Kids.” Schools and districts are encouraged to designate a day to wear purple and honor the children of military families in Georgia’s public schools.

“We all owe a debt to the families and children of our military service members,” State School Superintendent John Barge said.

“We honor their strength, their service and their sacrifices, and we are committed to ensuring the best educational opportunities and support for each of them.”

You can learn more about the Month of the Military Child and get activity ideas at http://www.monthofthemilitarychild.com.

Murdock's Student Council members invite all students to participate in Penny Wars!

WHEN:  Fri, April 18th through Tues, April 22nd

WHY:  to benefit The Rally Foundation, with funds supporting research in the treatment of childhood cancer   (find more information at www.rallyfoundation.org)

WHERE:  student drop off of coins will be in classroom jugs in the cafeteria
from 7:25 to 7:50 am on the dates above
,
with Student Council members and sponsors supervising

MORE DETAILS:  Student Council decided on this coin war as a friendly competition between classes.  We want students to take ownership of coin placement in class jugs, using estimation and strategy.  How does that come into play?  The purpose of the “war” is to have them bring in coins and battle each other by putting silver in another class jug and pennies in their own class jug.
Only pennies count toward the positive total for your class and silver deducts from the total of another class jug of your choice.

Do we welcome larger cash donations? Absolutely!  As it is a penny war, dollar bills will neither add to nor deduct from any class coin total for the competition itself. Classes would be recognized for any parental effort in supporting this worthwhile cause that is near and dear to some in the area.  The purpose for this competition is for the kids to have fun while doing something good for charity.  We do not want parents to feel pressured following other recent school fundraising events, but we do want to support this particular cause researched and decided on by our Student Council students.  Every coin counts!

During our multi grade level, CRCT testing from

April 23 – May 2nd

we will not be able to accommodate visitors and volunteers.  Please plan accordingly.

Fire Lane Changes for Schools

On March 13, 2012, the Cobb County Fire Lane Ordinance was amended to
include a provision for student pick-up at schools.

The ordinance now allows
a vehicle to be located in a fire lane for 30 minutes prior to the afternoon
school end time and 30 minutes after the school end time, as long as a
driver is behind the wheel
.

Stopping or parking a vehicle in a fire lane at any other time
is prohibited, unless passengers are actively loading or unloading.

Fire lanes can be identified by “No Parking Fire Lane” signage and/or curbing
that is red in color.

Fire lane violations currently result in a fine of $135.00.

Lunch Visitor Policy Changes

To better ensure the safety of our children we have revised our lunch visitor policy.

Parent(s)/Guardian(s) must send a note in the morning if their child is expecting a lunch visitor that day.

Please specify the visitor’s name and relationship to your child in the letter.

Lunch visitor notes will be forwarded to the front office for reference when the visitor checks in.

We will apologetically deny any visitor for whom a letter has not been sent.

Enrolling parent(s)/guardian(s) are always welcome to visit at lunch without a note.

Parents or visitors can ONLY take their child to visitor table, no extra students.

Thank you for your help and understanding as we implement this policy to better protect our children.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION!

The general public will have to present a photo ID to gain access to the building through the Main Entrance.

A button on the entry pad, located to the left of the front door, will have to be pushed to gain entry into the building.

Click here to read more about this new policy.
