 During the summer:

New Student Registration will be held on

July 14th from 9:00 am – 6:00 pm

 Meet and Greet will be July 30th from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. for all students. 

First day of school is August 3rd.

 The front office will be open from June 1 to June 12 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.

 We will re-open on July 8th .

The office will be closed on Fridays through July 17th

Hopefully you've heard that our PTA enrolled Murdock (not our PTA) in the
National PTA's School of Excellence program.

As a part of the process to be considered, you were asked to take a survey in the fall. 

The National PTA requires schools to RESURVEY their families in the spring and will compare the results to make their decision about which schools across the country will receive the NATIONAL SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE designation. 

If we are chosen, we keep the honor for two years and receive an enormous banner to hang in front of the school - and join the ranks of excellent school across the country!

The  deadline is approaching on June 1st.  

 Our Fall surveys were excellent - the only exception was the questions regarding translating in languages other than English.  


Here is some information on ways that we help with translation here at Murdock: 

  • Testing letters are provided in multiple languages
  • Parent surveys are provided in multiple languages
  • Translators are provided for parent meetings/conferences as needed

Please take time to help us get the word out that Murdock is a School of Excellence!!

The Cobb Schools Foundation is pleased to partner with the Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Department and the Cobb County Public Library System to offer the third annual
“Pig Tales”
summer Writing Competition presented by SCANA Energy.

 

The competition is open to all students in grades K-8 attending any public, private or home school in Cobb County.

 

Students are invited to write a short story or essay, in 750 words or less, about their favorite trip to the beach or a dream island vacation.

 

Work can be fiction or non-fiction. Students are limited to one entry.

 

Submissions must be postmarked  by August 12, 2015.

 

First, second, and third place winners will be chosen among students rising into three grade categories:
K-2, 3-5 and 6-8.

 

Entries will be judged on creativity, presentation and correspondence to the theme.

 

Winners will be announced online no later than August 20, 2015.

 

Prizes will be awarded at the City of Kennesaw’s Pigs & Peaches BBQ Festival on August 22, 2015, and include tickets to several area attractions, t-shirts, festival meals and goodie bags. The grand prize is a bicycle.

Murdock is once again partnering with our public libraries for our
summer reading program.

Cobb County 4th and 5th grade teachers have a new tool for teacher gradebooks and parent information.

Our new system, Synergy, has a ParentVUE that allows parents to view student gradebook information.

In order to access this system, the following steps are required by the enrolling parent: 

-Complete the Acceptable Use Policy and User Agreement form in person at the school. 
Only the enrolling parent may complete this form.  Photo identification must be provided.

-Receive your individualized Activation Key

-Pick up your copy of the ParentVUE Getting Started Guide

   

Fire Lane Changes for Schools

On March 13, 2012, the Cobb County Fire Lane Ordinance was amended to
include a provision for student pick-up at schools.

The ordinance now allows
a vehicle to be located in a fire lane for 30 minutes prior to the afternoon
school end time and 30 minutes after the school end time, as long as a
driver is behind the wheel
.

Stopping or parking a vehicle in a fire lane at any other time
is prohibited, unless passengers are actively loading or unloading.

Fire lanes can be identified by “No Parking Fire Lane” signage and/or curbing
that is red in color.

Fire lane violations currently result in a fine of $135.00.


Lunch Visitor Policy Changes     

To better ensure the safety of our children we have revised our lunch visitor policy.

 Parent(s)/Guardian(s) must send a note in the morning if their child is expecting a lunch visitor that day.

  Please specify the visitor’s name and relationship to your child in the letter. 

Lunch visitor notes will be forwarded to the front office for reference when the visitor checks in. 

We will apologetically deny any visitor for whom a letter has not been sent. 

Enrolling parent(s)/guardian(s) are always welcome to visit at lunch without a note. 

Parents or visitors can ONLY take their child to visitor table, no extra students.

Thank you for your help and understanding as we implement this policy to better protect our children.
