It's a Book Fair Fiesta! March 10 - 14
We're having a Book Fair
Fiesta! Our Scholastic Book Fair will be held in the
Media Center from Monday, March 10 through Friday, March 14.

Spring Book Fair Information
Firefighter Food Drive March 10 - 14
for our annual food drive for Fire Station #25. This
is the fire station that responds to Nicholson in times of
emergency. To show our appreciation, we want to help
them stock their pantry. Firefighters work very long
shifts, and must prepare and eat their meals at the fire
station---all at their own cost. So we want to help
out by stocking them up with some pantry staples.

2014-15 School Choice
Cobb County School District is again offering School Choice
(HB 251 and SB10) transfers for the 2014-2015 school year.
Applications will be available beginning February 10, 2014.

Purchase of New Writing Program Proposed
PTA is proposing
to amend the instructional materials portion of the budget
to provide funds for the purchase of materials for a new
writing program that is being made available to the
The Units of Study in Writing Series by Lucy Calkins
is a writing workshop curriculum. The curriculum reflects
the latest research in writing, and will bring coherence and
continuity to our school’s elementary writing program.

‘Pete the Cat’ author, Eric Litwin is
coming to Nicholson December 6th!!
Students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade are getting
ready to sing, dance, laugh, and fall in love with literacy
Mr. Eric will share his New York Times best-selling
book ‘Pete the Cat: I
Love my White Shoes’ and other delightful musical
is an award-winning musician who plays the acoustic guitar
and blues harmonica.
Our students will sing along to folk songs and tales
from around the world.
They participate from start to finish with call and
response, creative movement, jumping, shaking, dancing and
buckets of laughter.

Georgia Parent Survey
This survey, conducted by the Georgia Department of
Education will be used to calculate a 'School Climate
Star Rating' within the College
and Career Performance Index--the new index by which
all schools in Georgia are evaluated. Please click on

We will continue to log our volunteer hours this year. Please
sign in and record your volunteer hours every time you visit
Nicholson. The volunteer sign-in sheet is located in
the lobby next to the computer used for visitor badges.
This year we'll be
celebrating our Nicholson school spirit by wearing a
Nicholson shirt OR the Nicholson school colors--blue and
silver--every Friday! Chick-Fil-A biscuit sales will
be held one Friday per month.

when someone keeps hurting, frightening, threatening, or
leaving someone out, on purpose. Cobb County Schools
has designed a pamphlet to help parents and students
navigate the unclear roadways of behaviors that can be seen
as hurtful teasing or bullying behavior.
