Dates to Remember

First day of School - July 31st

August 21st - School day extended by 45 minutes

School-Day Extended 45 Minutes on August 21 due to Solar Eclipse

Due to the solar eclipse on August 21, 2017,  the Cobb County School District will delay dismissal of elementary, middle and high school students by 45 minutes.

The peak time to experience the solar eclipse falls during our regularly scheduled elementary school dismissal time.  Since student safety is always our first priority we will delay dismissal to ensure that neither students nor employees are on the roadways during the time of the eclipse.   Subsequently, high schools and middle schools will delay dismissal as well.

Schools will be provided with further guidance and instructional resources as appropriate.  Parents are welcome to pick-up their child at the typical dismissal time if needed.

For more information regarding the solar eclipse visit the National Weather Service at http://www.weather.gov/sgf/SolarEclipse.

   Bus Ride-Along

K-1 students, along with their parents, are invited to ride the bus on Friday morning, July 28, 2017, as a practice run prior to the first day of school.

 Transportation Changes Policy

It is our goal to ensure that all Nickajack students are transported safely to their afternoon destination. To achieve this goal, any change to your child's afternoon transportation must be submitted in writing to our front office staff.  We will not accept any verbal requests on the phone or any requests sent via email.

We ask parents to make all transportation changes clear to the student before they leave home in the morning.  Parents should send a note with the change information (see below) with the student.

However, there are times when a change is necessary after the instructional day has begun.  In these instances the request must be in writing and faxed to the school no later than 1:30 p.m. on the day of the change.

Required Information:    Transportation Change Form

  • Student's name

  • Teacher's name

  • Date(s) the change will be effective

The safety and security of our students is our number one priority.

We will continue to assess and evaluate our security policies and procedures and to make any adjustments necessary to ensure the safety of our students.

Attched to the image above is a letter outlining changes we made during the 2016-2017 school year.  If  more changes become necessary parents will be notified.

Thank you for your understanding and doing your part to keep us safe!

Kindergarten 2017-2018

Nickajack has added two 1st grade classes to our Dual Language English/Spanish Immersion program!  Last year's Kindergartners will move up to 1st grade and we will welcome our second group of Kindergarten students to the program.  This unique model provides instruction and support for students in learning both languages.  Students will split their day between instruction in Spanish and English.

  • We will continue to grow this program each year through Grade 5.

  • We will instill cultural competence and enhance communication among our students and community.

  • Our vision and mission is to develop and honor the greatness in everyone and help every child to become a leader.

  • Our Dual Language English/Spanish Immersion program will help students to become bi-lingual and bi-literate in an ever changing world.
