Mission Statement and School Improvement Plan

The staff of Lovinggood Middle School is dedicated to promoting an environment that fosters an alliance among staff, students, parents, and community.   Each one of us is committed to educating and encouraging intellectually reflective adolescents en route to a lifetime of meaningful work.

Beliefs that guide us:

All students must be given the opportunity to develop their individual gifts.

Schools must set high academic and social expectations.

Schools must have challenging learning environments which provide strategies and skills to develop independent thinking and lifelong learning.

Teachers must be knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and passionate about their subject matter and student achievement.

Schools must provide an emotionally and physically safe environment for all students to achieve their maximum potential.

Parents, teachers, and students must work together to reinforce a positive climate.

Information for the 2008-09 School Year

  • Book bags must be able to fit in the locker.  Rolling bookbags will not work.  The locker dimensions are approximately 1foot (width) x 3 feet (length).
  • When planning your wardrobe for next year, take a close look at the school’s dress code.  The most common infractions are as follows:  (1) Skirts or shorts that are not long enough.  The fabric must be below your longest finger.  An inch of fabric below the longest finger is a good rule to follow.  (2) Shower shoes worn as sandals or flip flops are another violation.  Flip flops must have some decoration or have hard or thick soles to be worn at school.  (3) Athletic shorts are only permitted for gym classes.  Make sure you dress for success.
  • .
  • Plan ahead for the hustle and bustle before the school year begins.  Visit the district’s website for the Meal Pay Program (school lunch) and Bus Locator.  You will also find information about Cobb Board policies (“I” Instruction, “J” Student Code of Conduct).  Finally, if your child needs to carry medicine, look for the permission form.
  • Mark your calendars…

To help ensure that the enrollment process for your child goes as smoothly as possible, please read carefully the following guidelines:

What Will The School Need To Enroll My Child?

Georgia law requires that each student present the following forms prior to being enrolled:

A. Georgia Department of Human Resources Form 3231 "Certificate of Immunization" showing that the child has adequate protection against varicella (chicken pox), Hepatitis B, diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough), tetanus (lockjaw), polio, measles, rubella (German measles) and mumps.

Further guidelines:
        · The Certificate of Immunization (Form 3231) must be signed by a physician licensed under the laws of Georgia OR by a qualified employee of a county health department.
        · A child who cannot be immunized because of a medical disability can be given a special certificate by a licensed physician or a county health department. If a child is not immunized for religious reasons, an exemption waiver must be obtained from the School District.
        · Immunization Requirements for students entering sixth grade:

Students entering the sixth grade must have a certificate showing proof of two measles, two mumps and rubella vaccinations administered since the first birthday.
