STEM Engineering Design Loop

Belmont Hills' STEM initiative began in the 2012-2013 school year. The teachers and administrators realized that it was necessary to find an innovative program to provide the students with rigorous and exciting learning opportunities. Our students come from a diverse background and many are English Learners (ELs). Students come to us with varying levels of background knowledge and our population is also transient. Over 95% of are students are economically disadvantaged. Through the use of STEM, students are provided real world experiences.

What Does STEM Look Like At Belmont Hills?

Belmont Hills implements the Novel Engineering approach during all STEM units. Our teachers purposely plan and implement STEM within our daily schedules. We also reflect STEM within our weekly science lab during the specials rotation. Teachers also collaborate with our media specialist in order to provide students with a variety of opportunities to use the tools and resources available at Belmont Hills. For example, the students will research using the computers, iPads, or Maker Space.
