Fall Term Information 2026

- Time Commitment: Students are expected to actively engage daily, dedicating approximately 5-7 hours a week in both online and offline activities to complete all requirements for an A or B (.5 unit) class. For a 1.0 unit class or two 0.5 unit classes (e.g., Health and Personal Fitness or Advanced Algebra Y), the time commitment increases to approximately 10-15 hours per week.
- Structure and Flexibility: CVA classes are asynchronous, allowing students to work at times that suit them best. While there are no regular live sessions, each student will have a synchronous welcome meeting with their teacher. Optional in-person or virtual support is also available through CVA Learning Centers. Students may work ahead, but must meet all deadlines listed in the Class Schedule. We recommend reviewing the full schedule at the start of the term to stay on track.
- Final Exams and EOCs: All courses without EOCs have a Final Exam. Students are required to take the final assessments as scheduled. Students may not exempt the final exam, and there are no makeup dates for final exams.

Online Registration and Orientation
Opens Monday, March 2 at 9 AM
Students will have access to their orientation and content classes beginning on August 3. Course assignment due dates begin the week of August 3.
Please note: Cobb County School District policy does not allow schedule changes after the first ten (10) days of school in the Fall and Spring terms. Students registering for a CVA course after this 10-day period may have the course request denied by their local school.
Personal Fitness Heart Rate Monitor Information
At this time, CVA will no longer be issuing heart rate monitoring equipment. Instead, students can use their own device or use Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) to monitor workout intensity. This approach is aligned with current physical education practices and fully supports state and national PE standards, which emphasize self-awareness, self-assessment, goal setting, and meaningful reflection.
What does this mean for you?
- You will no longer need a heart rate monitor or wearable device for this course.
- During workouts, you will aim for an RPE level of 6 on a 1–10 scale.
- RPE 6 = moderate to vigorous effort
- You should be breathing harder, feel challenged, but still be able to continue the activity.
- You will reflect on how your body feels during and after exercise rather than relying on external data.
Why are we making this change?
This approach to fitness:
- Encourages listening to your body
- Builds lifelong skills you can use beyond this class
- Helps you learn how to adjust intensity based on how you feel
- Places a strong emphasis on self-assessment, goal setting, reflection, and personal growth
This method develops habits that support long-term wellness.
Technical Requirements and Travel
CVA recommends using your CCSD-issued computer to complete assignments. CVA classes are delivered via the Cobb Teaching and Learning System (CTLS). CTLS is geo-restricted, so it is only accessible within the physical boundaries of the United States. Using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) while traveling outside the United States may help you access content that is geo-restricted. Please see the bottom of the CVA FAQ page for more detailed information if you plan to travel during the term.
Final Exams and EOCs
All Courses without EOCs have a Final Exam.
Final Exams (Online): Sunday, December 6 at 1 PM - Tuesday, December 8 at 8 PM
Students are required to take the final assessments as scheduled. Students may not exempt the final exam, and there are no makeup dates for final exams.

The following courses have a state-mandated EOC test:
- Literature and Composition II, sections B & Y
- Algebra sections B & Y
- US History sections B & Y
